Redwood and Cedar are extremely important to be protected from the exterior weather conditions with a waterproofing material such as wood stains or sealers. A good application to a wood stain or sealer should last a minimum of three to five years for a deck and much longer for fences or any wood structure with less foot traffic. There are solid and semi-transparent stains along with clear sealers. They are all unique for each individual project and play an important role in protecting the wood. We always recommend using wood stains for your deck and fence maintenance, which in the long run, will protect your investment. Depending on the setting of the outdoor living spaces and how much sun or moisture there is, it is always important to ask your contractor the options available.
